TASK LIST
Can you say concrete, boys and girls? And maybe trusses.
Hope to see you all then.
Lunches Available, Cheap
Last Saturday was a quiet work day. Where we have been having 25 to 35 volunteers show up each Saturday work day (versus 6 to 10 on Wednesdays), only about 8 came to the site. Since we have no way of knowing how many volunteers will decide to come out and help, we guess on numbers and notify the assigned church to bring out that number of lunches. Thus, Mark Allen, of First Presbyterian Church of Arlington Heights, brought out 30 lunches with drinks and desserts.
The drinks and desserts will usually keep, but what do you do with 20 or so delicious sandwiches? Fortunately, our partner family was able to find takers for the leftovers.
The volunteers continued installing the house trusses and making the carry beams that support the trusses over the two porches.
A set of trusses (for one of the dormers)is missing and we do not remember if it was delivered with the original order. MIght have to make a copy ourselves.
No photos were taken.

The Most Beautiful Rainbow
As we grow up, we learn that even the one person that wasn’t supposed to ever let you down probably will. You will have your heart broken probably more than once and it’s harder every time. You’ll break hearts too, so remember how it felt when yours was broken. You’ll fight with your best friend. You’ll blame a new love for things an old one did. You’ll cry because time is passing too fast, and you’ll eventually lose someone you love. So take too many pictures, laugh too much, and love like you’ve never been hurt because every sixty seconds you spend upset is a minute of happiness you’ll never get back.
Don’t be afraid that your life will end, be afraid that it will never begin.
Live simply. Love generously.
Care deeply. Speak kindly.
Leave the rest to God
Toil and Soil
Had a busy day Saturday, with over thirty volunteers on site. A group from Grace Presbyterian Church in Wheeling, another group from First United Methodist in Palatine and those from the Partnership.
When there are a few major tasks like hanging drywall or shingling roofs, it’s fairly easy to keep everyone busy, but when there are only small tasks we sometimes run out of jobs, and this happened on Saturday. By 2:00 or so in the afternoon people had begun to leave.
Before they started to leave, though, many things were accomplished. Much of the topsoil, which had been stockpiled during excavation, was distributed around the house and garage.
Another nasty job completed was the digging of four pier holes that will be filled with concrete to serve as supports for the porches and roof corners. See this groundhog here and here. Thank you very much for completing a difficult JOB.
Inside, all the interior and closet walls were completed, some walls were realigned and overheads between rooms were installed. The walls in the basement were also completed.
Finally, scaffolding for use during roof truss installation was constructed on the inside walls.
Additional photos are available at here and here.
The Task List for Wednesday (September 10) include installing roof trusses, possible pouring of piers and laying out stairs from front porch.
Any and all are invited to lend a helping hand.
